Benjamin (2018) Film Review - Spoiler Alert

After waiting three years and finally installing a VPN to watch this, I am pleased to say this production was well worth the wait. What I hadn't expected was to understand and sympathize with the main character on such a painfully deep level. Benjamin is a painfully self-aware man who places his entire worth upon his work being good and accepted. At the same intensity of his self-awareness is his complete lack of self-identity. The world through his eyes it seems is in a constant state of do-or-die, while simultaneously he feels unaware of how to be a person in this world. Each and every character left me astounded as I was consistently surprised by the chaotic nature of their lives. The work Benjamin created came from existentialism that at most times rendered him unrelatable to other respective characters. When being labeled a disappointment, possibly his greatest fear, his whole being changed. This story shows a man who pleads for love and validation in the very same breath that he fears it. The ending was perfect as we see our loveable mess choose to change the pattern of his life and let himself be, and find out who he can be. Anyone. Anything. Well done.
